Blue, turquoise, green ... these are the colors that are iridescent sea on the beach Saharun on Dugi otok. One of the most beautiful beaches in the Adriatic is the paradise for all - sailors, families with children, nature lovers and swimming in crystal clear sea. Located on the northwestern coast of Dugi otok, the 800-meter long beach with white sand and large shallow waters is surrounded by a pine forest that provides an ideal retreat from the hot summer sun. Sakarun bay is a member of the club of the most Beautiful bay of the world, where there are bays and beaches from 25 different countries. It is one of the favorite destinations in the Zadar region for boat excursions.
Near Veli Rat on the island of Dugi otok, there is a very attractive diving site, the wreck of the Italian ship Michelle. It transported bulk cargoes and stranded in 1984. It is not known exactly the cause of this breakdown, but speculates that it was intentionally stranded to receive compensation. Since the ship is at a very low depth, some of its parts are still protruding above the sea surface. That's why this location is ideal for non demanding diving with basic diving equipment as it is not necessary to dive with bottles at great depths and is also very interesting for visiting the boat.
The place Veli Rat is situated on the northwestern tip of the island, and its main attraction is the beautifully-named lighthouse of an impressive height of 42 meters. It was built in 1849 as the highest lighthouse on the Adriatic, which has remained until today, and light has a range of 22 nautical miles. Next to it is the chapel of St. Nicholas. Surrounded by thick pine forests, with beautiful bays and pebble beaches, Veli Rat is a great place to enjoy sea and sunbathing and boat excursion.
On Dugi otok there are former military tunnels that used to serve as a military harbor and hideout for the submarines, and were made by the army while Croatia was part of the former Yugoslavia. Today they are abandoned and are very attractive to visit because in them it is possible to enter with the boat.
